WHAT is a Public-Private Partnership (P3) School?

A P3 School is designed, built, operated, cleaned, maintained and OWNED by a private company -- for profit.  The government owns the land, but not the school.  It has to pay high lease payments over 20 to 30 years to use it.   The government does not own the school, unless and until it buys it back after the lease period is over.  Would you build your house that way?

Why are Public-Private Partnership (P3) Schools bad for employees?

P3 SCHOOLS ARE BAD BECAUSE:

In New Brunswick, all custodial and maintenance work is contracted-out in P3 Schools.  The contracted-out custodians have more work, for less pay and benefits.  Often, standards of cleanliness and repair are lower while the private company cuts corners.

On top of that, P3 Schools cost more.  That means less money in the Education budget.  That’s not good for kids, and not good for us either.  It  means more bus run cuts, job cuts and lay-offs, and fewer jobs in our bargaining unit.

The new Moncton North School is a P3 School and CUPE Local 824 members will not be cleaning or maintaining this school!

We need a new school, but we don’t need a P3 School!  We say NO to P3 profiteering at the expense of our jobs.

CUPE Local 824 says:  “PUT US TO WORK at Moncton North School!”
